Description

Itraconazole is an azole antifungal medication used to treat a variety of fungal infections

Side Effects

This drug may make you dizzy. Use caution while driving, using machinery, or doing any activity that requires alertness. Avoid alcoholic beverages since they can increase the effects of dizziness and also increase the risk of serious liver problems
Drug Interaction

Nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, gas, headache, dizziness, or stomach upset may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly
medicine before checking with them first.

This drug should not be used with the following medications because very serious interactions may occur: alfuzosin, certain benzodiazepines (e.g., oral midazolam, triazolam, alprazolam, estazolam), certain "statin" drugs (e.g., lovastatin, simvastatin), conivaptan, eletriptan, eplerenone, ergot alkaloids (e.g., ergotamine, dihydroergotamine), ivabradine, ranolazine, vardenafil.

Over Dose

If you have used too much of your medicine, immediately call your local poison control center (USA) at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: liver disease (or history of liver disease with other drugs), kidney disease, heart disease (e.g., coronary artery disease, heart valve disease, congestive heart failure), severe lung disease (e.g., chronic obstructive pulmonary disease-COPD), high blood pressure, decreased or no stomach acid (e.g., achlorhydria
Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

Uses

Itraconazole is a drug used in the treatment of fungal infections, such as aspergillosis, blastomycosis, histoplasmosis, and fungal infection localized to the toenails and fingernails (onychomycosis)

Storage

Store at room temperature between 59-77 degrees F (15-25 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medicines away from children and pets.

Precaution

Itraconazole may infrequently cause or worsen congestive heart failure. Seek immediate medical attention if you develop symptoms of congestive heart failure, such as swelling of the ankles/feet, sudden unexplained weight gain, trouble breathing, or extreme tiredness. Consult your doctor for more details.
